Happy Hour Spotlight: Morton’s the Steakhouse
Happy Hour Spotlight:
Morton’s the Steakhouse
Morton’s the Steakhouse | 1600 West Second Street | Cleveland, OH

Setting
Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland inside Tower City, Morton’s sits close to many of the city’s notable attractions—the Flats, East Fourth Street, the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, Great Lakes Science Center, FirstEnergy Stadium, Jack Cleveland Casino, Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field. The steakhouse has a mahogany interior with formal white tablecloths adding to the upscale atmosphere. The bar area is contemporary and chic, with modern lighting and flat screen TVs strategically placed throughout.
Food and Drink
Zagat describes Morton’s as having “expense-account” prices. They’ve clearly never been there for happy hour, as the high-end chain provides delectable offerings at bargain prices. I’ve tried the cheeseburger sliders ($8), petite filet mignon sandwiches ($8), mini crab cake BLTs ($9) and filet mignon trio ($9). All the dishes were fresh, flavorful and satisfying. The filet will melt in your mouth. Make sure to order the parmesan truffle matchstick fries ($7)—they’re a great accompaniment to any meal and can be shared with the entire table.

Most of the food on the happy hour menu is between $7 and $9. Choices include iceberg wedge bites, short rib steak tacos, buffalo chicken goujonettes (a fancy name for chicken tenders) and crab, spinach and artichoke dip. Jumbo shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell and a ribeye steak sandwich are available for an upcharge.
While Morton’s does have happy hour drink specials, the value is in the food. Beer is $5.50 and includes Bud Light, Budweiser, Heineken, Miller Lite and Samuel Adams seasonal. Wine ($8.50) and martinis/cocktails ($9.50) are pricier and include Pebble Lane chardonnay and pinot noir, cosmopolitans, Manhattans and mojitos.
Notes
Happy hour at Morton’s is offered Sunday – Friday from 4:45 – 6:30 p.m. in the bar area. The bar itself can accommodate 10 – 12 people and there are five high top tables nearby. The service at Morton’s has been outstanding during my multiple visits. There is meter parking available on both sides of Tower City, but this can prove challenging depending on construction or downtown events. Other parking options include valet or the Tower City Center Garage.
