Restaurant Spotlight: Si Señor Mexican Restaurant
Si Señor Mexican Restaurant | 7729 Broadview Rd. | Seven Hills, OH
I’ve lived in the southwestern suburbs of Cleveland—Independence, Brecksville, Broadview Heights and Seven Hills—for most of my life. Si Señor, located on Broadview Road between Pleasant Valley Road and Sprague Road in Seven Hills, has been in existence for seven years. I had literally driven by it thousands of times and never once stopped in for a visit … until recently. Now, my family and I are regulars—they can’t get rid of us.
The atmosphere inside Si Señor is colorful, festive and inviting. Mexican music plays in the background and themed art dons the walls, tables and booths in the dining area. A hostess is stationed at the front of the restaurant to greet—and promptly seat—customers.
The food at Si Señor is the most authentic Mexican I’ve had in Northeast Ohio. The tacos are simple and delicious; fresh (and evenly seasoned) ground beef, crisp lettuce and shredded cheese work in perfect harmony to create a satisfying dish. Pro tip: On Tuesdays, the tacos are $1 all day. Pro tip #2: Kids eat free on Sundays, with the purchase of a dinner entrée.
The chicken quesadilla is my wife’s favorite menu item, and understandably so. It’s comprised of a lightly grilled and crunchy flour tortilla—stuffed with tender chicken and melted cheese—that sits atop a bed of lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole.
If you and/or your party can’t decide what to try, I recommend Si Señor’s version of a sampler—the Azteca. This generously portioned appetizer—served with sour cream, fresh guacamole and diced tomatoes—features cheese quesadillas, shredded beef flautas, and chicken and beef nachos.
Raise your hand if you like margaritas and beer. I do, which makes me especially fond of this Seven Hills staple. Si Señor features tremendous daily drink specials.
The midweek specials provide great value. Wednesdays feature $2 domestic beers while Thursdays and Fridays offer big discounts on margaritas (see above), which are refreshingly sweet and easy to drink. Remarkably, a beer or margarita at Si Señor is cheaper than a Coke at most other restaurants.
There’s nothing fancy about Si Señor, which is part of its charm. It’s an unpretentious restaurant that serves generous portions of traditional Mexican cuisine at reasonable prices. The food is hot, fresh, flavorful and authentic. An added bonus is the unlimited freshly baked chips and salsa that accompany every order.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t write about the restaurant’s employees. The staff is friendly, attentive and hard working. They’re a major reason for Si Señor’s success and longevity.
