Cleveland Restaurant Week 2019: Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse
Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse | 26300 Chagrin Blvd. | Beachwood, OH
November in Cleveland … what a wonderful time of year. I know what you’re all thinking—this guy is drunk. I swear, I’m not. You’re probably wondering, then, why I would open this blog with such a proclamation. The answer is simple—Cleveland Restaurant Week!
Cleveland Restaurant Week is an annual two-week event every November in which member restaurants of Cleveland Independents offer special three-course price fixe menus for $33. It serves as a fun and cost-effective way for diners to sample potentially new and/or high-end eateries throughout the region. This year’s promotion started November 4 and runs through November 16.
Fifty-three restaurants are participating in this year’s festivities. I wish I could include them all. Names on the list that caught my eye include Alley Cat Oyster Bar, L’Albatros Brasserie, Parallax Restaurant and Lounge, Salt+ a restaurant and Pier W.
Throughout the week, I studied the list ad nauseam. The question became where to go. With so many appealing options to choose from, I was struggling to make a decision. So, who better to consult than the queen of value, my mom. Surely she could provide some worthwhile insight. Right I was. Turns out, she had taken part in Cleveland Restaurant Week on Thursday evening with her group of friends. Their establishment of choice was Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse in Beachwood. The group gave it rave reviews. Good enough for me. Tiffany and I were off to Hyde Park for a Friday night dinner.
Located in the Clarion Hotel at I-271 and Chagrin Blvd. in Beachwood, Hyde Park sports a refined, sophisticated atmosphere. The restaurant features six private dining rooms, fireplaces, an elegant wine display, a substantial bar/lounge and walls decorated with caricatures of notable area personalities. Menu highlights include lobster tail, Kobe beef burgers, filet mignon, ribeye and New York strip steak.
Tiffany and I took advantage of their Cleveland Restaurant Week special.
To start, the complimentary bread—pretzel breadsticks, traditional rolls and multi-seed crackers—was tremendous. Seriously, who doesn’t love warm bread with fresh butter? Our first course, the wedge salad, was crisp and refreshing. For the second course, Tiffany ordered twin filet mignon while I chose crab cake Oscar. Both dishes were winners, though the crab cake could have been warmer. The steak was perfectly cooked and required very little chewing—it legitimately melted in our mouths. The whipped potatoes and onion straws were perfect accompaniments. My crab cake was well-portioned, flavorful and topped with a tasty béarnaise sauce. The third course—flourless chocolate torte—was the highlight of the night. It was light, decadent and rich in flavor.
Hyde Park is an upscale restaurant that treats its customers right. The staff—from the hostess that greeted us to the two servers who waited on us to the manager who came by to chat with us—was first rate. Parking is simple, as a sizable lot and complimentary valet both exist. Whether it’s for dinner, happy hour or Cleveland Restaurant Week 2019, Hyde Park has something for everyone. Cheers!
