Fun in Cleveland: Forest City Shuffleboard Arena & Bar

Forest City Shuffleboard Arena & Bar | 4506 Lorain Ave. | Cleveland, OH

Forest City Shuffleboard sits at W. 45th & Lorain.

As you probably know by now, I love exploring Cleveland’s robust bar and restaurant scene. That said, my stomach (and wallet) can only handle so much. So, when my friend Mike organized an outing to Forest City Shuffleboard Arena & Bar in Ohio City, I was excited. It’s always fun to explore different entertainment options.

The place has an excellent bar.

Before we get started, you may be thinking— “I’ve heard of shuffleboard, but what is it exactly?” Don’t worry, I thought the same thing. Here are the basics, straight from my head and not from the website Legacy Billiards 😉: shuffleboard is a game where players take turns sliding weighted pucks down a court or smooth table made of wood into a scoring area at the opposite end.

It’s a fun vibe inside.

A 7,500-square-foot entertainment facility, Forest City Shuffleboard boasts seven regulation courts (five indoor and two outdoor), two tables, vintage arcade games, pop-a-shot basketball and skeeball. They have a 30-foot-long bar that serves beer, wine and cocktails plus a fully functioning kitchen that highlights rotating chefs and vendors. An ample amount of seating exists throughout the dining area.

Forest City Shuffleboard has lots of fun games.

Forest City Shuffleboard employs a throwback varsity vibe. In other words, you feel like you’re in an old-time high school gym (think Hoosiers). Featuring wine-and-gold striped walls, championship banners, hardwood-high tops, stadium seating and a scoreboard, the elements all add to the excitement of playing shuffleboard.

Forest City Shuffleboard is a highlight of Ohio City.

About shuffleboard—it’s tons of fun! Before beginning, customers are given a brief lesson on how to play and score the game. Then you’re off and running. Granted, it took me a few minutes to figure out whose team I was on—but once I did, it was smooth sailing. As for who won our matchup, it was close. However, Mike and his fiancée Leslie defeated Tiffany and me 2 – 1 in a best of three contest. We’ll get them back next time.

The ladies got the hang of shuffleboard quickly.

Shuffleboard courts and tables are rented by the hour. Courts cost $7 per person/hour while tables can be had for $3.50 per person/hour. Bonus: rentals are half-price from 12 – 3 p.m. on Sundays.

Smiles all around.

I want to shout out the staff at Forest City Shuffleboard. They were inviting, helpful and professional. Our bartender provided Mike and me with numerous samples to ensure we ordered something we would like; our court attendant gave a great lesson and let us play an extra game for free; and our server during “dinner” (the four of us shared delicious nachos) was attentive and courteous.

Yes, the nachos were outstanding!

With the holidays and a transition to a new job fast approaching, I’m going to have a lot of time off in the next month. Guess what I’ll be doing? If you said playing shuffleboard in Ohio City, you’re a winner.

See what I mean about the varsity vibe?

Forest City Shuffleboard is a fun and unique venue … it’s the perfect place for a fun outing with family or friends. So, what are you waiting for? I’ll see you on the shuffleboard courts. Cheers!
